Who are the Initiators?
95% of all trips to Oman unfold across less than 10% of the country, either in the north around Muscat or the south in Salalah. In between lies an entirely undecided part of the world's largest sand desert, the Rub al Khali. The quest for connecting the highlights of the Sultanate in the north and south through a spectacular expedition led to the creation of The Oman Expedition. This innovative venture emerged from a collaboration between Alila Hotels Oman and the Canvas Club Private Camps, both possessing hotels in the north and south. Canvas Club Glamping Oman
Away from hotels and the surrounding villages, Canvas Club establishes their private glamping camps in the North and South of Oman. Amidst the dune landscapes of the Desert, you’ll experience glamping up close. Your accommodation for the night is a lovingly furnished tent, adorned with many small details that evoke a traditional oriental flair. In the evening, you can enjoy the tranquility by the campfire and gaze at the sparkling starry sky above you. Taking care of your culinary delights is our 5-member team led by Camp Manager Ali.
The Canvas Club team spends most of the year in the desert and has always dreamed of connecting both locations through a spectacular expedition. As pioneers with their own camp in Oman, they have been continuously exploring remote, undiscovered regions of the desert with all their facets. This gave Philip, one of the founders of Canvas Club rise to the idea of The Oman Expedition.
Alila Hotels Oman

Alila is running two outstanding properties in Oman, the Alila Jabal Akhdar on the cliffs of the Green Mountain and the tranquil Alila Hinu Bay, located on the cerulean blue shores of Oman’s southwest coast, in Salalah.
The question that the Cluster Director of Sales & Marketing, Joakim Velinder, and the General Manager of Alila Hinu Bay, Juan Paolo Alfonso, asked themselves was:
How can we spectacularly connect both hotels and create a unique package that embodies what defines Alila as a brand? The Oman Expedition is the answer to that.
Dunes & Stars Oman
Dunes and Stars is operated by two partners and friends: Jurjen Duintjer (Dutch) and Abdullah Mashaikhi (Omani). With a shared passion for cars and desert driving, they have extensive experience in organizing and conducting desert crossings. Through their longstanding friendship with Silent Sands and Canvas Club, they are absolute experts in their field and in the meticulous planning of expeditions and challenging crossings.
THE ARTISTS
The first expedition was accompanied by three of the most talented photo and videographers currently making waves in the travel world. All recordings were captured by Johannes, Tim, and Jonas, who have been illustrating and documenting various projects of Canvas Club Glamping and Alila Hotels Oman in the past years.

Jonas
Jonas Skorpil is 29 years old from Frankfurt am Main and works as a professional photographer, filmmaker and content creator. With over 10 years of experience, he has specialized in impressive landscapes, commercial photography and outdoor activities. His passion for traveling and his attention to detail are reflected in his works that tell stories.
In addition, Jonas flies FPV copters that give him a unique perspective on the world, immersing you in it as if you were up close and personal.
